Mary is primarily self-taught, studying classical and plein-air painting techniques, and employing the self-discipline that earned her a Ph.D. in economics to advance her work with brush and paint. She has taken courses in classical oil painting, studio drawing, and composition at the George Washington University and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Mary is a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters. She is represented by the Chesapeake Gallery in Prince Frederick, MD, and exhibits at American Painting in Washington, D.C. and New York, NY.

Mary has exhibited in many juried shows, including at the Maryland Federation of Art and the Art League (Alexandria, VA), and her paintings are in several private, corporate, and public collections, including the U.S. NRC. Her art also appears in publications such as Rock Creek Park (JHU Press), and American Art Collector (Alcove Books).
